Global research shouldn’t be limited by language barriers. When participants can’t express themselves in their preferred language, valuable feedback can get lost in translation, or never surface at all.

Our new multi-language support for user interviews enables you to conduct user research in 30 languages (other than English), available for both panel and self-recruitment interviews.

Gather richer feedback with native-language interviews

Have you ever hesitated to include international participants in your research because of language barriers in the scheduling process? Or worried that your non-English speaking users might miss important details in pre-interview communications? That's exactly what our multi-language interview feature addresses.

Until now, while you could conduct interviews in any language, the entire participant experience around the interview – scheduling emails, calendar invites, and the interview interface – was only available in English.

This limitation – our most frequently requested improvement for our Interviews feature – has created friction in the research process and sometimes discouraged teams from pursuing truly global research.

With multi-language interviews, you can:

  • Send all communications (emails, calendar invites, instructions) in the participant’s preferred language.

  • Provide a localized interface that makes participants feel comfortable from first contact to final follow-up.

  • Build stronger connections with participants by communicating in their preferred language.

When to use multi-language interviews

When expanding into new markets

Teams expanding globally need to understand local user needs before launching. Multi-language interviews let you connect directly with international users, helping you design products that truly fit cultural expectations and preferences from day one.

When seeking authentic feedback

When participants express themselves in their native language, they provide more nuanced and detailed feedback. They feel more comfortable sharing subtle observations and emotional responses that might be lost when communicating in a second language.

When including diverse global participants

If your user base spans multiple countries and languages, limiting research to English speakers creates a significant blind spot. Multi-language support helps you include perspectives from users worldwide, leading to more well-rounded feedback.

When evaluating localized versions of your product

For products that have been localized, interviewing users in the target language helps evaluate how well the localization works in real-world contexts – revealing cultural nuances that might otherwise be missed.

How multi-language interviews work in Lyssna

Our multi-language interview support offers a seamless experience for both researchers and participants:

  • Simplified recruitment and scheduling: Plan and coordinate interviews across different regions without worrying about language barriers.

  • Localized participant experience: All participant-facing elements – from interview screens and emails to the calendar event – will be automatically translated into your selected language.

  • Intuitive researcher interface: No special language skills required to set up and conduct interviews in multiple languages. The platform handles the technical aspects of localization.

Pro tip: In addition to interviews, you can also set up tests and surveys in different languages in Lyssna. Each test must be in a single language, which controls both the test interface elements and which panelists are eligible if recruiting from our panel.

To change your default test language, go to your Organization settings, or select a different language when creating individual tests. We support 30 languages (in addition to English), including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, and many more – you can check out the full list in our help center.
